Daunis, who is part Ojibwe, defers attending the University of Michigan to care for her mother after a family tragedy. When Daunis witnesses a shocking murder, she is thrust into an FBI investigation of a lethal new drug. Reluctantly, she agrees to go undercover, drawing on her knowledge of chemistry and Ojibwe traditional medicine to track down the source. The search for truth, though, is complicated, and she must decide how far she'll go to find it.
